Happy Hump Day!

It's Wednesday which means barre day for me. I teach Booty Barre at 12:00pm and then go to my friends Booty Barre class at 4:15. Talk about a booty burn, but I love it!!

If you're just stopping by, we have been reviewing the health benefits of some popular seeds over the past few days. We have already covered chia seeds and flax seeds, and now we will talk about hemp seeds.

Hemp seeds are relatively new to the healthy eating scene, but they are definitely here to stay. They are one of the most nutritious seeds around, and are even a complete protein. Hemp seeds contain a balance of proteins, essential fats, vitamins and enzymes, while still being low in sugar, starches and fats.
Hemp seeds contain:
·         Easily digested proteins
·         Essential fatty acids (omega 3’s & 6’s)
·         Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA)
·         Antioxidants
·         Amino acids
·         Fiber
·         Iron
·         Zinc
·         Carotene
·         Vitamin B1, B2, B6, D &E
·         Calcium, magnesium, sulfur, copper, potassium, & phosphorus

Now, if that’s not impressive, I don’t know what is. The nutrition packed seed has tremendous health benefits as well!

Health Benefits of Hemp Seeds:

·         Perfect Balance of Omega 3, 6 and GLA
·         More digestible protein than meat, eggs, & cheese
·         Can help increase energy levels & metabolic rate
·         Lowers blood LDL cholesterol levels
·         Lower blood pressure
·         Improves cardiovascular circulation & function
·         Increases immunity levels
·         Can reduce symptoms of PMS & menstrual cramps
·         Reduces inflammation which can help with symptoms of arthritis
·         Improves muscle recovery after exercise
·         Can help treat dry skin and hair

Hemp seeds have a slightly nutty flavor and are delicious in smoothies, pancakes, baked goods, and on top of salads. I definitely encourage you to give them a try!

Have you ever tried hemp seeds before?

What is your favorite way to eat them?
