I'm Loving - Simple Dinners, Warmer Weather, Oatmeal, Lots Of Walking, & New Video Projects!

Thursday, March 27, 2014

Hello There,

I hope you are having a great day! I just finished a wonderful walk around the neighborhood in the beautiful sunshine and it got me thinking about all the things I'm loving right now. It's nice to take a second to just reflect on the simple things that make day to day life better!

1) Warmer temperatures that allow me to get some sun while logging the miles!

2) Treadmill time with some good reads to help me unwind after a busy day.

3) Simple one pan dinners of yummy healthy food. This was last night's dinner while E was at kickball. I seasoned the fish with a little olive oil and cajun seasoning and then tossed the carrots in olive oil, salt and pepper. It all went in the oven for 25 minutes at 375F.

4) Chia and flaxseed oatmeal! You all know I am a huge fan of oatmeal, but I really think I have found the perfect recipe full of protein and healthy omega 3's for the growing bambino! Combine 1/4 cup GF oats, 1.5 tbsp chia seeds, 1 tbsp flaxseeds, 2 tbsp PB2 powder, 2 packets of stevia, 1/3 cup blueberries, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. MMMMM MMMM Good!

5) Comfy Lululemon tops that leave room for the growing baby bump!

 6) Taking on new projects! I had the opportunity a few weeks ago to film a full hour long barre workout for the website DestinationFit.com! If you need a total body at home workout, go check it out. I would be honored to help you get your sweat on!

I'm off to run a few errands. I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your day!

30 Minute Rowing Sprint Workout

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

Happy Hump Day!

It has been one crazy day over here. I taugth a 6AM class, auditioned a new a instructor, and worked at the studio in the morning. In the afternoon I worked on an exciting new project that I can't wait to share with you guys. You'll have to wait until next week, but I promise it will be fun. I rounded out the day with another Barre class and lots of packing for Vegas.  I leave tomorrow for the wonderful Kelley Smith's bachelorette party! Wish us luck. Our friends Daphne and Katie will be joining us in Vegas, so it is sure to be a party!

The IdeaFit #springintoactionmarch photo of the day word was sprint, so I decided to leave you guys with a fun ladder sprint workout for the rowing machine. I thought it would be fun to do a different kind of sprint workout than your traditional bout on the treadmill. I hope you enjoy! For this sweat session, I would set your rowing machine to a medium resistance.

If you are looking for a great running sprint workout, check out Alison's post from Fearlessly Fierce today! I hope you have a great rest of your Wednesday!

My Favorite Ways To SWEAT Outdoors

Friday, March 7, 2014

Happy Friday Friends!

Source - SITS Girls

How's your morning going so far? Mine has been super productive for a Friday. I taught my 6 AM Barre class this morning, went to the grocery store, found a pediatrician for Annabelle, reserved a spot in a birthing class (eek), worked on finding a newborn photographer, did some work for the studio, and now I'm working on this wonderful SWEATY blog post! Love it!

Today's IDEA Fit #SpringIntoAction word of the day is SWEAT, and we all know I like to do that. In honor of Alison, from Fearlessly Fierce, and my Spring Into Action Series, I wanted to put together a list of all of my favorite SWEATY outdoor activities!

Although I am a big fan of any workout that takes me outside, hiking is definitely my number one favorite. Drop me off in the middle of nowhere with pretty scenery, a water bottle, a packed lunch, and E, and I am one happy happy girl! Some of my favorite hikes were in Beaver Creek Colorado, Virginia, and Pedernales Falls, Texas.

Next up on my list, would probably be running in the great outdoors. The treadmill just can't touch what it feels like to get outside and open up your stride. Training for races always makes running outdoors more fun and meaningful as well. I love doing races that have great scenery. The Dallas 13.1 was really fun because we got to run all through downtown and uptown Dallas. This is a SWEATY post race picture with my friend Kristen.

Sometimes it's fun to take your strength work off the gym floor as well! You can take your favorite piece of equipment with you or simply use the elements to challenge your body. Here are some workouts I have enjoyed in the past.

Or this outdoor park workout using just a jump rope and things you will find around a park.

It is now 5:12  PM and I am just now finishing the post I started at 9:00 AM this morning. What took so long you ask? Well, I had a minor incident in my 11:00 AM class that put a damper on my plans. We had a packed house and things were rocking along beautifully until my pinkie toe connected with someones water bottle and bam dislocated it again!!! NOOOOO!!!!

Luckily, one of the other instructors was there and took over the class for me so I could excuse myself. My amazing friend Kim was also in class and came out to help me. She tried to get it back into place, but it was a no go. There was a chiropractor right next door so we went there to see if they could help. They were sooo incredibly nice, took me right back and popped it back into place. Kim was an angel and held my hand through the whole thing!! Oh my goodness, it hurts like the dickens. How can such a small thing cause so much pain? It's still pretty swollen and throbbing, but I'm hopeful it is all the way back into place. It's hard to tell when it is so fat!

I've spent the rest of the afternoon with it propped up on a pillow with ice on it. I am going to have to figure out some way to protect my bare feet better since it seems to keep happening over and over again! Any suggestions from people who also teach or take barefoot classes?

I hope you all have a great rest of your Friday and a wonderful weekend!

Park Bench Outdoor Strength Workout

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Happy Hump Day!

Woah, it's Wednesday already! How did that happen?? I think the delayed start yesterday, made the first part of this week fly by even faster.

In honor of the Spring Into Action Series Alison, from Fearlessly Fierce, and I are doing, I have a fun outdoor workout for you today.  Today's IDEAFit photo a day challenge word is STRENGTH, and this workout with definitely make you feel STRONG! All you need is your body and a park bench or picnic table. Make sure the bench is fairly flat and the ground in front of the bench is free of debris!

exercise, fitness, strength training, WOD

How to customize this workout for your needs:

If you want to take this workout up a notch, make your knee ups plyometric by propelling your knee up with extra force. Your foot may leave the bench slightly. The hardest version of the push-up will be an inverted push-up with your feet on the bench and hands on the ground. You can also stack one foot on top of the other when doing your tricep dips for a little extra umph. Lastly, you can add in extra cardio by going for a lap around the park between every round!

If you need to modify this workout a little bit, that is totally ok as well! You can keep your knee ups low impact, by stepping up and down off the bench instead of jumping. You can also modify the push-ups by placing your hands on the bench instead of on the floor. Lastly, bend your knees and place your feet flat on the floor for the tricep dips.

For my other soon to be mommies, I would definitely make your knees-ups step-ups and place your hands on the bench for push-ups. If you are in your third trimester, you may even want to place your hands on the back of your bench so you are not quite as horizontal. This will prevent your uterus from pushing on your abdominals and straining your back.

If you are participating in the Fit Fluential and Reebok 100 Miles In March Challenge, how is it going?

We're doing pretty good in the George household (E is even doing the challenge). I haven't been following their training plan exactly, but I have logged between 3-5 miles each day so we are definitely on track. Yesterday, the pup and I did 2 miles together in the afternoon and then I slipped in another quick mile on the treadmill while dinner was cooking. I hope your challenge is going well! Keep up the great work!

What's your favorite way to workout outdoors?

Chia Coconut Paleo Pancakes and A Baby G Update

Monday, March 3, 2014

Happy Monday Friends!

I hope you all had a great weekend! Ours was busy busy running errands and getting things done around the house. E's parents also came in on Sunday, so it was great to see them.

This morning, I was craving something different for breakfast so I decided to whip up some Chia Coconut Paleo Pancakes. I wanted to come up with a new recipe and it came out better than expected! The combination of eggs, banana, and coconut flour, gave the pancakes a great fluffy texture vs. being too mushy like a lot of paleo pancakes I have tried.

I think I may need to have these again on Wednesday! So delicious!!

If you missed yesterday's post about the Spring into Spring series I am doing with Alison, from Fearlessly Fierce, go check it out. We will be sharing tips for gearing up your workouts for warmer weather and following along with the IDEA Health and Wellness March Photo Challenge! This is day 3 of the photo challenge and the word of the day is GREEN. In honor of the color green, I decided to have a big green salad for lunch. I promise there is lettuce under al the other veggies on top.

Vegetarian Salad

I love salads, but my favorite way to get in my greens are through GREEN SMOOTHIES! I love them so much, that I have an entire page dedicated to my favorite green smoothie recipes. Go check it out!

How do you fit in your greens? Salads? Green smoothies? Other green veggies?

Baby G Update

22 week pregnancy update

How Far Along: 22 weeks (5.5 months in normal people speak)

Size of Baby G: Baby G is about the size of a papaya this week.

Movement: She is one active little girl! I can feel her on and off throughout the day, but she definitely gets the most active around 9:30-11:00 PM at night. I hope this is not a sign of what's to come! She may be a night owl like her dad. The coolest part was definitely when E could finally feel her kicking!

Exercise:The hip flexors are finally feeling so much better!!! Woohoo! I can't even begin to describe how nice it is to start feeling normal again. My hips still get really tight after a day of teaching, but it is so much more bearable now. Teaching is still going well, but I know the days on my back doing Pilates are probably limited. I have started to modify a few things a little bit more, but for the most part, I am still very comfortable on my back performing modified abdominal exercises. Barre still feels completely wonderful. I feel so blessed to have a way to work out that makes me feel so strong and graceful (since most of the time I feel clunky) while pregnant. I have started to increase my walking mileage again since the hips are feeling better. Plus, I'm participating in the FitFluential 100 Miles In March Challenge so I have to get in those miles. :) Overall, I am trying to listen to my body and follow what it tells me. For now, we are still teaching 2-3 classes a day, plus walking 3-5 miles a day either outside or on the treadmill. Just trucking right along!

Cravings: I have to be the most boring pregnant person ever. I still like grapefruits and ketchup, but that is really about all that I would say qualify as a craving. Gelato always sounds good, but I try to limit it to once every other week or so.

I hope you all have a wonderful Monday and a great rest of your week!

Did anything exciting happen to you this weekend?

What is your favorite way to eat your greens? Feel free to link up in the comments!

Spring Into Spring

Saturday, March 1, 2014

Happy Saturday Everyone!!

I hope you got to sleep in a little bit and have fun plans for the day! It's actually pretty warm here today, so I am hoping E and I can get outdoors for at least a few hours!

In honor of the warmer weather on the horizon, my good friend Alison (from Fearlessly Fierce) and I are going to dedicate the entire month of March to gearing up for warmer weather! Throughout the the month, we will be sharing ways to take your workouts into the great outdoors with out "Spring Into Spring" series!

We were inspired by one of our favorite fitness communities, Idea Health and Fitness and their Photo A Day March Challenge #SpringIntoAction. Many of our Spring Into Spring posts will be tied to one of their great photo ideas.

Want to join us? Head over to their official challenge site and sign up! Follow along with our Spring Into Spring posts and join us as we click away at the photo challenge. Be sure to label all of your pictures and tweets with #springintoactionmarch so we can keep up with all your outdoorsy fun!

Why not keep the challenges going with FitFluential's and Reebok's 100 Miles In March Challenge??? For this challenge, I will be striving to walk/hike 100 miles in March since Annabelle is not a huge fan of me running (or I should say my hips aren't a huge fan of me running).

I'm excited to have the challenge motivate me to fit in extra miles every day. It also fits perfectly with our Spring Into Spring series since I will hopefully be able to tackle my miles outside! For more information on the challenge, check out their website.

I am off to fit in a few miles before the day gets away from me! I hope you have a wonderful first day of March!!
