Thinking Out Loud - Barre, Belle, and Beauty Products!

Thursday, January 29, 2015

Howdy!

It's time for Thinking Out Loud Thursday my friends. This one is going to get a little random (in a good way) so hold on for the ride!

Whew! It's Thursday at 11:00 AM CST as I write this, and I am officially pooped. On Thursday mornings, I teach three classes back to back (6 AM Pilates, 7 AM Barre, and 9 AM Barre). I absolutely love it, and wouldn't want to change a thing about it, but boy am I pooped afterwards. It definitely reminds me I'm not in college anymore. :) I used to teach three classes in a day without even thinking twice about it. All three of my classes this morning kicked some serious cupcakes (aka booty in Lauren speak). By the time they were all finished, I was drenched in sweat (just how I like it)! How can three little pieces of equipment induce so much beautiful sweat?

I am using Pitbull's new son "Fun" right now in class for a curtsy lunge song and 1) I love the song and 2) it is making my booty live in a perpetual state of soreness. Pitbull for the win!

As always, Belle had a party at Pilates too and came home exhausted. She fell right to sleep for her nap as soon as we got home (let's all say a little prayer she doesn't wake up now since I just typed that). We have babysitting at the studio during certain classes (i.e. all of mine), and Belle absolutely loves playing with/watching the other kids! I think it has really helped her blossom into a complete social butterfly. Side note... does anyone else's kiddos bibs always swing to the side like this? Some times, I'll look down at her and she'll have managed to swing it all the way around her neck like she is wearing a cape instead of a bib. Silly girl!

So while the rest of the country is digging their way out of the snow, Austin is completely ignoring the fact that it is winter! Before anyone gets mad at me for complaining about beautiful weather, I AM NOT. I promise. LOL  It has been gorgeous here the last few days, and Belle and I have taken advantage of it with afternoon walks as much as possible (aka trying to distract her from her teething pain and fussing). However, I am a little sad that all of my super cute sweaters are just withering away in my closet collecting dust. You win some you lose some I guess. We will be enjoying the sun again today with an afternoon walk if little bit cooperates.

Since I'm still breastfeeding, I feel like there are like a million and one rules on what I can eat, drink, and put on my skin. It's a very small price to pay, and most things I don't mind avoiding, but home girl misses her anti-wrinkle eye cream!!! I am a very smiley person (just am, can't help it), and when I do so, I totally scrunch up my eyes. I know I am probably over reacting, but I feel like this extenuates the wrinkles under my eyes and makes them deeper (this is when E always interjects and tells me I'm being ridiculous). Since I had to stop using anything with retinal when I got pregnant, I've been without under eye cream for over a year (almost 17 months to be exact). I've tried a few different things, but nothing I have loved. I went to Ulta earlier this week and asked the manager what she suggested. Mario Badescu's hyaluronic eye cream was her top pick so I went with it. I've only been using it for a few days, but I definitely feel like it is a great moisturizer if nothing else. I will report back after a few weeks with what I think.

That's about all I have for this wonderful Thinking Out Loud Thursday, but I do want to leave you with a great inspirational quote I saw yesterday. It was a great reminder for me to always try to be a doer instead of just a talker!

How did you get your sweat on today?

Fellow mommies, any skin products you swear by while you were pregnant or breastfeeding?

Happy Birthday Em! + Playlist Love

Thursday, May 8, 2014

Howdy Everyone,

Today is a very special day! It is my little sister's 24th birthday. Emily, is one of the funniest, spunkiest, most carefree, and fun loving people I know. Even though she is 2 years younger than me, she teaches me about life on a regular basis and always gives great advice!

Since the days of matching bows and terrible Christmas sweaters, she's been a great little sister. I am so proud of the amazing young women she has become. She graduated from The University of Texas this past December with a degree in PR (yes, I still claim her even though I went to A&M). She followed her dreams and got a job with one of the biggest music festivals in the country SXSW. She works passionately towards her goals each and every day.

She is always up for a good time and is the life of the party!

But when it comes to her family, she is always there when you need her no matter the time of day.

Pretty much, she's one of the coolest girls I know and I am so lucky to have her as my little sister!

Happy Birthday Em! I hope your day is filled with joy, love, happiness, and tons of laughs. Knowing you, I have no doubt in my mind the next few days will be a total party! LOVE YOU!

In honor of my music loving sister, I thought I would share my current Barre playlist. It's full of some of my favorite songs and can be used as the musical fuel for really any workout!

I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday! It's time for me to head into work.

Have you entered my Mamma Chia Giveaway yet? You only have a few days left!

What's on your current workout playlist?

Spice up your Pilates or Barre playlist!

Friday, February 7, 2014

Happy Friday!

It's below freezing here in Austin, so of course everything shut down again. This means, I got to sleep in until 7:30 AM! Pure bliss! Luckily, we opened back up in time for my 11 AM Barre class. Everyone else seemed ready to get their workout on as well, because we had a packed house. I loved it. I feel so blessed to get to teach such amazing and fun students every day. :)

Speaking of Barre, I wanted to share an article with you I wrote for MyGroupFit.com on music selection. Many people think that all Pilates classes have to be performed to classical music, or no music at all, and that is simply not true. In this article, I share how I use music to energize my class, create flow, and keep the class synchronized.

If you teach Pilates, Barre, or really any group exercise class, check it out and let me know what you think! Need some great songs to get you started? Check out my Pilates and Barre playlists below. You can always find my most up-to-date playlists on my playlists page.

If you are a group exercise instructor, do you spend a lot of time on your music for class?

As a participant in group exercise classes, how much does music make a difference in your experience?

It's time to get a few things done around the house before the weekend officially begins. This weekend will be our only weekend in Austin this month so we have to make the most of it! What are you guys up to this weekend?

Pilates, Running, Strength Training...... Take Your Pick!

Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Happy Hump Day Friends!

How is your Wednesday treating you so far? My morning started out with a bang with a wonderful 6am Pilates class! I am always so impressed by the people that wake up super early in the morning to fit in a workout before work. My class dove right into the workout this morning and rocked it!

After class, I headed home to wake up the hubby and squeeze in a quick 3 mile run. It was a crisp 58 degrees outside and felt AHHHH-MAZING! I think I ran the whole way with a big goofy grin on my face it felt so great outside. Well.... it was actually a combination of smiling and lip singing to my running playlist. I was totally having flashbacks to high school when I made this playlist and went with an angry rocker girl theme. Pink, Avril Lavigne, Ashley Simpson, and Katy Perry are great running buddies!

Rewinding back to yesterday, I finished my day up with one more barre class at 4:45pm and then headed to the Y to meet my friend Whitney for a workout! Here's what it looked like if you want to give it a try. Whitney and I can testify to our sweatyness. We actually only go through 3 rounds before we got kicked out of our space by a boxing class. We made up for skipping the last round with some incline chest press and 20 minutes on the stationary bike.

After our workout, we headed across the street to Whole Foods for dinner. I love me some Whole Food salad bar. Since the weather was nice, we enjoyed our dinner from the rooftop deck with this incredible view!

Alrighty friends, it's about time for me to head back up to the studio. Have you got your sweat on yet today? What's your plan?
