The Power of Antioxidants

According to a study in The Journal of Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism, people who took multivitamins with antioxidants for three weeks were able to pedal at the same pace with less effort than those who took a placebo. Antioxidants protect muscle proteins from free-radical damage that can lead to fatigue. Antioxidants are substances or nutrients in our foods and supplements which can prevent or slow the oxidative damage to our body. When our cells use oxygen, they produce free radicals which can cause damage. Antioxidants act as "free radical fighters" and hence prevent and repair damage done by these free radicals.  (

The Most Commonly Known Antioxidants:
  • Vitamin A and Cerotenoids- carrots, squash, broccoli, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and kale
  • Vitamin C- citrus fruits, green peppers, strawberries, and green leafy veggies
  • Vitamin E- nuts & seeds, whole grains, and green leafy veggies
  • Selenium- fish, shellfish, red meat, eggs, and chicken
Health Benefits of Antioxidants:
  • Fight free radicals
  • Support kidney function
  • Improve nervous system function
  • Enhance the immune system
  • Help fight off cancer cells
  • Help maintain healthy vision
  • Reduce obesity
  • Improve quality of sleep
  • Support respiratory system
  • Slow the signs of ageing
I like to think of antioxidants as little warriors that storm around in my body fighting off the flu, cancer, and wrinkles! Really, what more could a girl ask for?

Food for thought:
Do you currently take antioxidant supplements?
How was your weekend?

  1. Lauren! I tried to register a customer profile, but when I clicked on the link all I got was a white screen. Is the site active yet? Just let me know! Mallory

  2. Thanks Virginia! I thought it was pretty funny!

Hey Mal! I'm not sure what happened when you tried to register, but the site is active. To find the Login button, you can click on "Lauren G's shop" in the instructions on how to create an account or simply visit: then click on login on the very top of the page! Let me know if that doesn't work! Thanks for letting me know about the weird link.

  3. Alright, starting to feel like this has to be user error! I still get nothing when I try to go to your "shop page." It's just a white screen! Any ideas?! I'm sorry!

  4. Hmm that is so strange! I've tried it on three different computers and it's worked for me. I don't think it's user error maybe it's just your computers error.

  5. Mallory- I got it to work for me. Try going from a product to checkout. when you get to the checkout screen you have an option to register. This was wayy easier than trying to register first!

  6. Thank you for all of your help! I finally got it to work today :)
