Happy Hump Day Everyone!!

I hope everyone's week is going well so far!! Can you believe this weekend is Halloween? I seriously feel like October flew by at the speed of light! Although I am super excited about Thanksgiving, I am not excited about all of the papers I have due the Wednesday before Thanksgiving! Time to buckle down!

This morning, I woke up and headed outside for a nice 4.5 mile run. At 7:30am the air was crisp and it felt like Heaven in my lungs. I don't think there is any better time to run than the fall. My shins are actually holding up exceptionally well this time around. Usually, this far into training I am popping Advil like Skittles and icing my shins after every run. I think it must be my new super shoes that are saving me!!

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a post about running and weight loss. I am trying to make sure I take my own advice and not allow myself to fall into the mentality of, "since I ran 6 miles this morning, I deserve that piece of birthday cake." Even though I really want it, and will maybe even give in and eat it, I don't "deserve it" just because I ran. What a cruel cruel world!

I have also been practicing rule number 3: trade in some of your dinner calories for breakfast calories. Breakfast is by far my favorite meal of the day, so this rule is easy for me to follow. The key is to make sure you actually cut 100 calories from dinner if you add them to breakfast! When I am doing shorter runs (anything less than 6 miles), I simply eat breakfast after my run. However, if I am doing 6+ miles, I definitely need to eat something pre-run. I try to eat something that sits well in my stomach and has around 100 calories. My top 2 choices are a banana or a Nutrilite snack bar. These both provide just enough energy without packing on the calories or making me feel nauseous!



The half-marathon is a little over a month away and my training plan calls for me to run 9 miles this Sunday. I ran 8 two weeks ago and it went pretty well. Does anyone else have the problem of getting bored when they are logging that long of a run? I try to enjoy the outdoors and take in my surroundings and all of the jazz, but sometimes I look down at my watch and I'm like really it's only been 20 minutes? Am I alone in this? Just wondering! I blame it on exercise ADD!

I definitely get bored just running for that long... music helps me some, but if i forget my ipod, i'm a goner! running with my dog also helps because she is so ADD, i have to be careful that she doesn't trip me on accident!!! I recently committed to training for a half-iron man! I didn't know what it was but since it wasn't a full one I didn't think it would be too bad... I WAS SO WRONG! its a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13 mile run. YIKES! can you maybe help me find some training websites for that? I can't seem to find many. Thanks :)

  2. Hey Katelyn!! I'm with you, I can't run without my ipod!!

    Wow a half-ironman, that's really impressive!! I have done a couple of quarter ironmans, but never a half! My brother-in-law has done a couple and he loves them. Which one are you doing??

  3. I know what you mean about the running ADD. I almost always run with my boyfriend and I'm not sure how I'd get it done without him. On the rare chance that we have to run separately (or inside on the treadmill) it's sooooo boring. Even with the TVs at the Rec I get bored inside.

    I've been sick all last week and I didn't do any running. My full marathon is Nov. 14, so I'm a little worried that I might have put myself in a bad place. I'm starting back up tomorrow with the schedule, I hope by race time I'm back in shape!
