Have you tried a group strength training class lately? Oh and I'm drowning in Dallas!

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a restful night! If you are in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I hope you are managing to stay above water!! We have received a ridiculous amount of rain over the past 48 hours. I really don't know if it has stopped raining since Monday night. I woke up this beautiful rainy morning and swung my legs over the side of the bed only to discover I could not straighten my legs completely because my hamstrings were so sore! What caused this not so amazing feeling in my legs? I believe the Cardio Body Sculpt class I taught yesterday is to blame.

Interruption: Literally as I am typing this post, Eric walks downstairs to go workout and I hear, "Oh ****," followed by a splash!! Never a good sign. Our entire entry way is covered in water! We called the maintenance staff, and apparently they are "on the way."

I took this picture from our balcony. That lake you see there is usually a soccer field!

Back on task: I love lifting weights, and the way it can transform your body. However, I am notorious for getting bored while lifting weights in the weight room. All of those big muscle guys jumping around and grunting really isn't my scene. I much prefer the friends, fun music, and high reps you find in a group strength training class!

Reasons why I love group strength training classes:
  • Great Music
  • Fun atmosphere
  • Fun workout equipment you can't always find in a traditional weight room
  • Comradery with friends
  • A certified instructor will provide you with and efficient and effective total body workout.
  • There's no guess work. You know you are going to get a great workout every time. (pending you have a fantastic instructor)
  • Great for people who are just beginning a strength training routine.
  • Group strength training classes work on both muscular endurance and muscular strength due to the higher reps performed in a class setting.
  • In a group strength class, you move quickly from one muscle group to the next, minimizing downtime, which helps you burn the most calories in the quickest amount of time!! You can burn up to 33% more calories during a circuit style workout vs. a traditional weight lifting workout where you rest in between sets. Talk about more bang for your buck!

I hope these factors convince you to at least give a group strength training class a chance. You never know, you might love it!!

Food for Thought?
Are you drowning where you are?
Do you currently attend group strength training classes?
If so, what do you think?

Below, is an except from Tina's 30 post today. As a self admitted perfectionist, I found quite a bit of enlightenment in her post! I encourage you to check it out, and reflect on why we all try so hard to be perfect anyway. I know a completely perfect world would be extremely boring, but my type-A personality always seems to push me to pursue perfection. Even when I know I shouldn't! This is definitely something I am constantly working on.

"To break free from the chains perfection binds us in, we must not only recognize that perfection does not exist but also that we don’t even want it. Imagine the vibrancy life would lack in a world of perfection. Our pains make our joys brighter. Our weaknesses make our triumphs over them greater. Our unique physical attributes make us all the more beautiful. The areas of our lives that we may wish to improve on make the areas we take joy in all the more sweet. The absence of perfection gives us a meaning to live. With perfectly sculpted and manicured lives, the passion and purpose for going out and experiencing life would diminish. What’s so perfect about that?"

Yours truly,
