Granola Bar Extravaganza!

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

I hope everyone had a Terrific Tuesday! This post was inspired/sponsored by my good friend Mallory. She brought me the cutest house warming present (see below), filled with goodies. She then suggested that I test out all the granola bars she gave me, and  do a post about which one I liked best. Of course, I thought this was a brilliant idea! I am also going to include information on the nutrition facts. I will hand out three awards: Best Tasting, Most Nutritious, and My Overall Favorite!

How cute is he?? And he came filled with these....

Most Nutritious

And the Winner is....Caramel Nut Brownie Luna Bar. This little bar has 180 calories, 6g fat, 27g carbs, 3g fiber, 12g sugar, and 8g protein. This bar is also packed with vitamins and minerals, including: Vit. A 20%,  Vit. C 20%,  Calcium 35%, Iron 30%, Vit. D 15%, Vit. E 30%, Vit. K 10%, Thiamin (B1) 10%, Riboflavin (B2) 40%, Niacin (B3) 40%, Vit. B6 75%, Folate 100%, Vit. Best Tasting

And the Winner is.....Almond & Apricot Kind bar. This granola bar was delicious!! It is all natural, gluten & Whey Free, dairy free, and has a low glycemic index. You could really taste the different fruits and nuts! It tasted homemade. Here are the stats: 170 calories, 100 fat calories, 11g fat, 16g carb, 5g fiber, 13g sugar, 4g protein. Most of the sugar comes from the fruit, and the majority of the fat and calories come from the nuts. So even though the stats don't look very impressive, overall it is still a pretty healthy snack!

Overall Winner

And the Winner is.....Kashi Go Lean Chocolate Pretzel Crunch bar. Oh my goodness, this bar was delicious! It was also super filling for a fairly reasonable amount of calories. Here are the stats: 160 calories, 30 fat calories, 3g fat, 28g carbs, 5g fiber, 13g sugar, 8g protein, 15% DV of Vitamin C, 20% DV of Calcium, 10% DV of Iron, 35% DV of Vitamin E, 25% DV of Vitamin B6, 25% DV of Folic Acid, 25% DV of Vitamin B12, 10% DV of Magnesium, and 15% DV of Zinc. 1. Kashi is my favorite, but I don't like how much sugar granola bars have...

  2. Larabar's are my favorite! The nutritional information ranges based on the flavor, but they're all fairly reasonable with low sodium and about 5 grams of protein per bar. They're strictly made out of fruit and nuts. Only 5 ingredients per bar. They're gluten free, dairy free, soy free, vegan and kosher. Oh and did I mention how yummy they are!

  3. Virginia- I definitely agree with you about the sugar content of many granola bars. I try to opt for whole foods whenever possible, but sometimes I have to go with a bar for sheer conveninece!

Amy- I forgot about Larabar's. They are delicious!! I love the one in the green package. It's name has escaped me!
