Howdy!!
I hope everyone is having a fabulous week so far! With final papers due and a crazy work week, I have been running around like crazy. I have actually been "running" a little too much. With the big race this weekend, I am suppose to be tapering this week. I have read all of the articles, and books about how important tapering is, and have experienced it first hand as well. So, how is tapering going for me this time around? Well, not so great......

Being a fitness instructor doesn't really make it easy to rest up before a race. I'm not blaming my profession, I love what I do with all of my heart but it does present its challenges. When you're tapering, the main thing you want to avoid are doing things that cause excess muscle fatigue or soreness. Well, boot camp and sculpting classes definitely cause both, and I teach a lot of those! It is especially difficult to rest when the gym gets brand new equipment (aka gliders) the week before the race, and you just can't help but play with it! :) I'm a sucker for new fitness toys, and my inner thighs are paying for it today. Oh well, my little (well medium size) legs will finish this race no matter what!

Food for thought:
Do you have trouble tapering before a race?
What is your pre-race fuel of choice?
How do you feel about eating mid-race?
In health
It's definitely hard for runners that also teach fitness classes to get the rest they need! I don't teach aerobics anymore, only PT...I know it was so tough on my body when I was!!!
ReplyDeletehaha i was confused about the "shot blok" until i saw that picture.
ReplyDeletekeep up the awesome blog

Hey Lauren,
ReplyDeleteI love a good apple with some whole foods 365 creamy peanut butter. I like this peanut butter over just about anything else because the only ingredients in it are Salt and Peanuts. If you read the label on say, Peter Pan (the kind Jason eats incessantly) it has: hydrogenated vegetable oil and SUGAR! Yuck. I'm not sure if that's a pre fuel meal, but I love it so I guess it could count!

I hope your run goes well today! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the well wished guys! The race was definitley fun!
ReplyDeleteAmy: I will have to try that peanut butter next time I'm at whole foods!! I know what you mean about trying to avoid all those "extra" ingredients!
I'm way behind in my blog reading because of finals so I'm just getting to your posts. I'm glad the race went well for you, my friend was there to run her first half and she finished in 2:48! I actually really like the GU (especially the blackberry and vanilla). I used those on my marathon. I've never heard of the Clif things, but I might give them a try. They look big, how much is in there compared to the GU?
ReplyDeleteHey Veronica!
ReplyDeleteI hope finals are going well. Your friends time is amazing!! I have never tried the blackberry vanilla GU, that does sound really tasty. There are 6 blocks in each package, but that is technically 2 servings. I took 3 before the race started and then 3 more around mile 7 and I never felt a major energy slump. They are also super yummy!
